Top Notch Tommy

Part One: Article Body

From the moment the conversation began, it felt like catching up with a beloved family member. I sensed the spirit of my Baptist preaching father, the intellect of my erudite grandfather, the advice of my older brother, wrapped in a hint of the comedic genius of an original the world embraces as, “Uncle Steve” (Steve Harvey). Though he shoulders the spirits of many we may relate to, he is blazing a new trail all on his own. The one and only, Thomas Miles, better known as Nephew Tommy.

Every morning he delivers gut bubbling laughter with tear jerking humor to millions, as Nephew Tommy on the Steve Harvey Morning Show. With the unforgiving Eugene and outrageous Oatmeal within arm’s length, Thomas Miles is on a mission to keeping the unadulterated, “Stupid” truth available to everyone under the sound of his voice. Yet, don’t fail to perceive this Texas A&M graduate as clueless. He has studied with the Royal Shakespeare Company of London, taken part in a wealth of plays and movies, and is currently completing the pilot of his first sitcom in which he premieres in the starring role.

Nephew Tommy’s star is rising in television, movies and radio. His prowess, however, is not limited to these arenas. He methodically and assuredly shows endearing love to his fan base of plus sized women, by working to develop a clothing line set to premiere early 2013. If you are unable to catch him on stage, or seeking a refill of his unending foolishness, you make pick up copies of his CD’s available in stores across the nation and at Nephew-Tommy.com

Spirituality, talent, commitment, respect and humility are combined to drive the vehicle to success Nephew Tommy currently rides. He has obviously taken seriously the chapters from his uncle’s life as the keys. After our discussion, I definitely feel we are in store a continued legacy to reach unimaginable heights. Even greater, he is sharing in his success by reasonably uplifting those around him who are actively seeking to do the same. Kudos to you, “Top Notch Tommy”.

Part Two: Article Questions

Where does Nephew Tommy’s career stand today?

“I am working everyday to reach the goals I have set. I want to expand more into movies and television. I also want to increase my brand across clothes and C.D. sales. This journey for me is a work in progress.”

Obviously, natural talent plays into the growth of your career. I even remember having to prove a co-worker you and Eugene are one in the same. This was an on-going argument, until I found a video of you in character. Can you give us some insight on your characters and this insatiable talent?

(After pouring forward a snippet from a Shakespearean sonnet, on cue, Tommy details)

“I majored in theater at Texas A&M University. I was one of the very few African-Americans to take on this major. Later, I took part in studying with the Royal Shakespearean Group of London. I have also been fortunate to perform in a few plays by Tennessee Williams. I credit my talent to God and am inspired by the life He’s surrounded me with.”

On a more personal note, would you like to share more light on your family life and what that means?

“I have a great supporting team to keep me focused. The Steve Harvey Morning Show family continues to be a blessing on this journey. I am blessed with children who I desire to be a positive role model and hands-on figure. Yet, my family life is personal. I choose to keep it out of the light of my career and respect my loved ones decision to share in this light if they so choose.”

What final advice would you offer young entrepreneurs trying to get a foot in their chosen doors?

“Be ready to work hard and don’t give into laziness. The secret is simply to, ‘Keep at it!”ImageNep

Chapter 1

“Praise the Lord everybody! Praise the Lord!” Bishop David Graham preached loudly to his parishioners at The Garden Christian Center, a church that he started over five years ago out of his basement. The church started with seven people and now he had over two thousand members.

“Praise the Lord, for he is good, he is merciful and he is our King!”

The church was on fire; people were dancing and praising the Lord. Bishop Graham was ecstatic to see so many members rejoicing over what God was about to do in their lives. His message was titled; Deliverance is now, right now. Bishop Graham’s wife, the reverend Dr. Carol Graham was praying with the intercessors for those that came to the altar for prayer.

“Church now is the time to give God all of the glory and the honor. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords!”

The choir began singing, now unto him that is able and the parishioners continued in prayer and praise as the offering was being taken up.

Escorted by his armor-bearers, Bishop Graham left the sanctuary before service was over. Oftentimes, when he was full and still in the presence of God he would leave early to take some time to reflect and pray alone. He walked out with tears in his eyes and as the service came to a close, one of his ministers, Elder Cathy Sims gave the announcements.

“Church since we are still enjoying the presence of the Most High King, feel free to exit quietly and read your bulletin for updated announcements, however, I need to meet with all ministers in training in the back conference room for a brief planning meeting. Thank you!”

Bishop Graham’s eldest daughter was following in his footsteps to become a minister of The Gospel.

Bridget had a few chats with some friends, greeted some of the new guest and then followed behind the ministers in training to the back conference room.

“Service was awesome, Ms. Graham, I think that every time your father preaches he seems to be in my business from the week before.” Mr. Hamilton spoke to Bridget trying to engage into small talk.

“Dad spends a lot of time praying and studying God’s word. He loves his church members.” Bridget responded with a smile.

Bridget was gorgeous. Her body was tone; she worked out at the gym five days week and ran for five miles every other day. She worked in the church office but se had held an MBA from Miller’s University.  There wasn’t a week that went by that someone wouldn’t show her interest, ask her out for lunch or simply comment on the fact that she wasn’t married with any kids.

Once everyone was in the conference room, Elder Cathy Sims immediately began the prayer before she proceeded on with the agenda. She was one of the first members of the church and she was very matter of fact, yet she often spurred off some religious jargon that made people feel more condemn than blessed. She would often speak negatively of those that didn’t come to every service, meetings or events that the church was having. Bishop Graham was aware of her demeanor but he appreciated the respect and expertise of organization that she brought to the church.

The meeting lasted for another ten minutes of her going over the upcoming women’s conference that would be held in two weeks. As they adjourn the meeting, Bro. Thomas Hamilton and Bro. Victor William stayed in their seats.

Victor was new to the church. He was a minister at his previous church, next in line to become the assistant pastor. Bishop Graham loved his charismatic personality and the anointing that he brought to the ministers in training. His smile was warm and loving and many members followed him to the church when he joined simply because of his Godly demeanor.

“What are you doing this evening?” Thomas inquired of Victor.

“I have a paper that I need to finish and submit to my professor by midnight. I am just about done.”

“Well, if you want something to eat. Bishop Graham is grilling this afternoon. He invited all of the leadership to come over to for dinner.”

“Man, I didn’t know about that.”

“He announced it at the meeting on Thursday night but you weren’t there.”

“Yeah, man. That is the night that I have class. I guess I miss a lot of important meetings this semester.”

“Don’t worry about it, anything that you are suppose to know someone will keep you informed. “

Bridget stood at the door talking to Sis. Janice Lawal. That was one of her best friends, actually they went to high school and college together.

“Hey man, I have been checking her out.”

“Who, Janice? She is cute and all but hands-off bro. she is married.”

“No, Bridget. She is hot, you know.” Victor slightly blushed, trying to not make it very obvious.

“Yeah, but-“

“But what? Just because she is Bishop’s daughter doesn’t mean that she isn’t human and have human desires.”

“Yeah, but she is a strong black sister. She is focus and to be honest. I have only seen or heard of her dating one cat since I have been with the church. She is completely career oriented and of course she is focus on her ministerial work.”

“She is still fine and not to mention charming.”

“Well, hey, get your work done and come over to Bishop’s house, maybe you can get to know her a little better then.”

“I think that I will do that. See you later, man.” He shook Thomas hand and gatheImagered his bible and coat and walked to his car.

Romans 8:38-39

New International Version (NIV)

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

That is some powerful LOVE! Makes me teary eyed.  What a peace I feel…nothing can seperate me from God’s love.

Why is physical touch dangerous and important?

7 Apr

We are spiritual beings and spirits travel, every morning I take time to annoint my hands with olive oil and pray. I am a touchy, feely person so I know that where ever I go and do, I live a part of me with that person or in that place. The parts of me that I leave is from God, so I first pray for myself and then I pray for the places that I will go and people that I will see so that I leave a part of me that is from God and God is love. Today, touch a broken soul, feel someone’s pain, calm someone’s fears…love someone through it all.

No matter what, this is the day that the Lord has made…let us all rejoice and be glad in it!

7 Apr

Today, I am using my mental capacity to be thankful to God for everything that he has done for me. I am so thankful for Him allowing me to see this day, keeping me in my right mind and protecting me from dangers seen and unseen. I serve a God that no adjective can completely describe accurately. All that I am and that I will ever be is because of Him. He is a peacemaker, soul winner, burden barrier and my King. He guides my foot steps and he leads me into the paths of righteousness for His name sake. I am so thankful, the fire that I feel in my heart is from the Holy Spirit! Today, I have purpose in my heart to give- and it shall be given…Good measures, press down and shaken together…God is about to give back to me.

The quote of the day!

22 Mar

The quote of the day!

Day 1…I am different and it is okay! I mean I am okay with that.

18 Feb

For the majority of my life I have felt absolutely different from most people I encountered. I always felt special and unique, but all the more destine for absolutely greatness. I have wondered why I do not fit in most of time with people for long periods of time and why I do not linger long in situations that were not beneficial for me to involve myself in. It is because I was different, I was special and I was unique and most of time it was best for me to not involve myself into situations where people did not share a common goal for a thrust for life and aspirations for success. I was just simply a different person, living a life of greatness and having a vision beyond my right NOW!
